We are extremely disappointed at the cancelation of the 2013 MetroPCS Dallas Marathon. We appreciate the runners who have trained for months to participate in our race and have a tremendous amount of respect for their efforts. We worked to make a decision as early as possible to help ensure safety of our participants and volunteers and to help alleviate unnecessary risks for out-of-town participants traveling to Dallas. The weather conditions presented an extraordinary challenge; this is the first time in our race’s history – dating back to 1971 – that we have had to cancel the race.
Q: Why was the race canceled?
A: A major ice storm went through Dallas last night. The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures to hover below freezing through Monday. These conditions were deemed to be unsafe for our participants, volunteers or spectators. We waited until the last reasonable moment to make this decision in light of all the hard work and preparation that is required by our partners, volunteers and staff to put on the race. We appreciate with the dedication and efforts of our participants and volunteers in anticipation of this race, and are equally as disappointed as they are to cancel the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon for the first time in our race’s history.
Q: Will you reschedule / is it postponed or canceled?
A: After reviewing all alternative and contingency plans, we reached the decision that the 2013 MetroPCS Dallas Marathon will be canceled. The race will not be rescheduled.
Q: Can runners receive a refund/deferral/transfer/holdover?
A: No, the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon has a standard industry policy of no refunds, transfers or deferrals. The good news is our organization is a non-profit and donates proceeds from our race to benefit Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, a wonderful facility that provides health care to children.
Q: Can I get my participant gear?
A: We want participants to have their participant shirt that signifies the many challenging weeks and months of training completed in preparation for the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon. We will be mailing participants their participant shirt to the address provided at the time of their registration. This is an extensive mailing process; we hope to have each participant shirt in the mail by the end of December. We ask that participants email us at firstname.lastname@example.org by Tuesday, December 10, if their mailing address has changed since the time of registration.
If a participant registered in 2013 completes the 2014 MetroPCS Dallas Marathon, Half Marathon or 5-Person Relay, we will provide the participant with two medals – the medal he/she would have received for finishing the 2013 race and their 2014 finisher medal.
Q: What about the Expo?
A: The Health & Fitness Expo is canceled. We have notified all vendors and communicated to participants, volunteers and the general public through email, social media and media outlets.
Q: Can I get a refund for my travel reservation?
A: All travel arrangement questions should be directed to the venue in question, transportation company or the participating travel agency who booked the trip.
Q: When will the race be run?
A: The next scheduled MetroPCS Dallas Marathon is Sunday, December 14, 2014.
